shrove tuesday

mmmm, pancakes! We made several, but the really small one was best, because it flipped over three or four times in the air before landing back in the pan. I'd never really considered the size:aerodynamic capability ratio of pancakes before. Perhaps pancake tossing could be developed along the lines of high-diving, with marks for pikes, twists, and other more uniquely pancake-type moves yet to be named (but suggestions welcome!)

icon of torn hopes, 2009

This latest piece is larger than previous ones, and more complete in its shape - the tearing takes place within the shape this time. Materials; papier-mache on wire frame, sand, rubber matting, wax, various small found-objects, gold spray-paints. Shown in different lights.

Examples of previous 3-d pieces included below.

teaching

I also teach full-time in a small secondary school in North Yorkshire. We had Ofsted in just before half-term. It was a 'pilot' inspection under a new format. They agreed with our assessment, and said we are 'good'. What a relief!
Although no two days are the same in this job, I feel proud and very fortunate to go to work there. If you're a teacher, feel free to share any Ofsted experiences on the blog; the good, the bad, and the ugly.

photos

Further to my art work, I have been exploring the theme of 'communication' through the medium of photography.

art works

I'm a creative artist and teacher of art. Here's a selection of work I've made over the last ten years. I use chalk pastel / oil paint / mixed media with papier-mache. Hope you like them!
